Contestants came from Toastmasters Clubs from Ottawa, Kingston, Cornwall and New York State. Many District Officials were in attendance including:
- Leona Hamel, District Governor
- Lise Blodin, Lieutenant Governor Education & Training
- Beverly Miranda, Lieutenant Governor Marketing
Cheryl Tynski , Area 2 Governor and President of the Morrisburg Toastmatsers Club served as Chief Judge for the Contests.
Below is a summary of what exactly these contests are about and the results of the March 28th contest.Table Topics Contest:
The table topics contest was chaired by Gord Bell, Area Government 3 Governor and the 1st place winner was Cathy Hayward.
Purpose:
- to provide an opportunity to learn by observing the more proficient speakers who have benefited from their toastmasters training.
- to encourage development of impromptu and/or extemporaneous speaking skills and to recognize the best as encouragement to all
Topic:
- all contestants receive the same topic which is usually in general nature and shall speak for 2 minutes
- topic should not go in to great detail, but should lead to an opinion or conclusion
The International Speech Contest:
International Speech Contest was chaired by Pauline Kuhlman, Area 1 Governor and the 1st place winner was Teri Kingston.
Purpose:
- to provide an opportunity to learn by observing the more proficient speakers
- to provide an opportunity for speakers to improve their speaking abilities
Topics
- must be unique / original and can be chosen by the contestant
- timeframe 5 to 7 minutes
The day was an inspiraction to all who attended. We thank all participants and we wish the contest winners the best of luck as they proceed to the District Contests!
